Direct/Indirect

Direct/Indirect Lighting:

Direct and Indirect lighting both have very different uses for example the way in which direct lighting would be used is to illuminate a single subject that is currently standing underneath it, this basically means that direct lighting directs the light downwards onto the surface below whereas indirect lighting casts the light upwards making it reflect of the ceiling and the walls to cast light onto the subject, this is the main difference between direct and indirect lighting and both of these light types can be used in film production for different purposes and different effects. The ways in which this would be used in media is direct lighting can be used in an interrogation scene when the subject is being pressured and a light in being shone at them whereas indirect lighting can be used when trying to light up a characters face but try to have a smooth contrast between the light and the shadows and dark areas around this makes the subject look much more clear.
